Want to talk to a human being?

Tired of "Press One for sales, Two for support...?"
Paul English was tired of it too, so he created the IVR Cheat Sheet, a list of codes for major companies' phone systems to get you out of the automated phone tree and over to a live person:

The Takeoff

One of several surfers I shot this morning at the Hermosa Beach Pier. I liked this one because of the angle I got - even with the breaking wave.

Schumacher Plaza Dedication

David Schumacher (seated) and his wife Margaret address the appreciative crowd during Saturday's dedication of Schumacher Plaza at the foot of the Hermosa Beach Pier.

A huge crowd turned out on a wonderful day for the event at the Hermosa Pier, dedicating the new rebuilt plaza, lifeguard tower and bronzed sculpture of surfer/lifeguard Tim Kelly.

Consuming Hermosa Beach

I'm making some changes to my Hermosawave home page (http://www.hermosawave.net) over the next few weeks.

Most of my content changes revolve around RSS feeds, in other words creating blog content and also consuming or syndicating content from other places, such as this blog which is syndicated to the home page.

Another RSS feed is syndicating Flickr photos of Hermosa Beach. Post your photos to Flickr with the tag of Hermosa Beach and you'll end up on this page. It grabs the eight newest photos. (As of this writing 5 out of 8 are mine, so c'mon people get busy!)

I'm hoping to add some others as well.

One of the other changes is to add Google Ads to help offset some web site expenses.

Browser Statistics for Hermosawave.net

I am very pleased to see the share of people browsing with Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) going down and down. At one point they had over 90% share!

IE is an old browser that's not standards-compliant and very susceptible to hackers' evil deeds. If you're using Windows you should really do yourself a favor and get Firefox (click the link at the bottom). If you're on a Mac Firefox, Safari and Camino are all good choices.

Browser brand share from June through October 2005:
Internet Explorer: 54% (mac/win, includes others posing as MSIE like the Treo 650)
Mozilla: 34% (mac/win/unix, includes Firefox and Mozilla)
Robots: 15%
Safari: 3% (Mac only)
Netscape: 2%
Lynx: 1% (unix text browser)
Opera: 0.38%
WebTV: 0.17%
AvantGo: 0.13%
Konqueror: 0.09%
Camino: 0.02%

Computer Platforms
Windows: 62% (75% of the Windows total are XP)
Macintosh: 21% (.02% of this are Intel Macs)
Robots: 15%
Linux: 0.44%
WebTV: 0.17%
FreeBSD: 0.13%
Sun: 0.01%
